Rationale for the inclusion of the course / module in the programme The course is required by the Malaysian Institute of Accountants to ensure that accounting graduates have adequate communication, critical thinking, problem solving and analytical skills. The main rationale of the course is to act as a capstone course to enable students to apply their various skills acquired to solve ‘real-world’ business problems. Semester and Year Offered

Course Objectives

This course is designed to enable students to integrate knowledge from various related disciplines and sub-disciplines and to enhance their technical core competencies as well as their problem solving skills in the unstructured business environment.

Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:
1. Integrate and apply knowledge from the various accounting sub-disciplines and other business related disciplines within an organisational context; 2. Identify issues, undertake research, analyse and synthesise information to solve business problems in the unstructured business environment; 3. Evaluate a decision taken by others, assess the appropriateness of the decision to the problem or issue identified; 4. Develop an appropriate action and implementation plan;

5. Communicate ideas, views and recommendations;
6. Incorporate ethical values in the decision making process. Transferable Skills:
Skills and how they are developed and assessed, project and practical experience and internship 1. Problem solving, critical thinking, decision making and analytical skills are developed through case analysis, case critique and discussions. 2. Case analysis seminar
A three hour case analysis seminar-cum-workshop which teaches students how to analyse cases and how to prepare case analysis reports. The seminar includes a mini case for students to apply the skills they have learned. Case presentation and report
