Unit one: Development and development planning:
1. Development communication:
Development means improving the living conditions of society, there has been much debate on just what constitutes improved living conditions and how they should be achieved. Development communication is the communication research and practiced geared towards third world development needs initiated in the second half of the 20th century. The role of communication in social world is known as development communication. 2. Empowerment:

Empowerment is the controlling and regulating the power. It works on network social relationship. There are several kinds of power: Power over, power to, power with and power within. Empowerment is defined as the process by which individuals, organizations, and communities gain control and mastery over social and economic conditions; over democratic participation in their communities; and over their stories. There is an increased interest in local autonomy, culture and knowledge; and the defense of localized, pluralistic grassroots movements. 3. Communication from development perspective:

Communication is the maintenance, modification and creation of culture. In the sense, the processes and intuitions of communication, of culture and of development are all woven together. It becomes impossible to think of communication as predominantly a process of information transmission.

4. Development support communication:
Development communication began to focus their attention on searching for factors that could presumably make development projects more relevant to the needs of disadvantaged groups. Their efforts, therefore, resulted in the conceptualization of communication as a dynamic support to development project and activities, termed development support communication. DSC can be described as development planning and implementation in which adequate action is taken of human behavioral factors in the design of development project and their objectives.
