What are the main issues in the case?

From the case of Fran Hayden Joins Dairy Engineering , it imply that every employee in the company like Fran should understand how to perform a basic job as a office clerk in the company . In the case, she getting trained from the really basic level to higher level. She was assigned to join the management information system for training which cause lack of motivation. She has been receiving verbal abuse from her boss which has caused her performance outcome to drop

Why did the problems/issues occur?

When Fran first accepted the position of assistant cost accountant at Dairy Engineering Ltd., she was expecting to gain practical experience in the field of accounting and a higher starting salary. Thinking it’s the right step to take on in her young professional career, soon after, she realized that binding and pinching paper wasn’t the work she was first hired for. She must have begun to experience frustrations and dissatisfaction from the job she doesn’t desire. Peter, Fran’s boss, started a relationship with Fran that is based on mistrust and no support system which demotivated Fran, causing her to have no interest in arriving to work on time, producing a high quality product, or simply completing her daily tasks.

Moreover, Fran finds it hard to be motivated from her current job position, finding it boring, entirely clerical, and not requiring an undergraduate degree. Her performance level has drop even though her tasks may not be demanding. Furthermore, her role perception is unclear; Fran was hired to do more accounting work than binding work, which isn’t the case in this situation.

After some time, Fran started to experience discomfort in her role after returning from a business trip in Auckland, with her boss, Peter, not notified of her departure, he began sending verbally inappropriate messages to her. Peter was not pleased that Fran went behind his back to attend the workshop, even though Rob, the chief accountant, allowed her to attend the workshop while letting her know that he’ll contact Peter and inform him about her departure. None of that happened and Fran was the one blamed.

Moreover, Fran highlighted that if Peter’s inappropriate behavior resumes, she will ask for a transfer to a different location or resign from her current position. Peter’s actions of unethical behavior and illegal acts towards his employees could lead to lawsuits and court appearances. Peters constantly engages himself in psychological harassments. Psychological harassment includes repeated and hostile or unwanted conduct, verbal comments, actions, or gestures that affect an employee’s dignity or psychological or physical integrity and that result in a harmful work environment for the employee. Feeling hopeless in front of Peter, Fran is experiencing a job burnout which has been affecting her emotions leading to stress and impacting her personal love-life. The job burnout is a process of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and reduced personal accomplishment resulting from prolonged exposure to stress.

We can compile from all these issue that Fran wouldn’t mind leaving Dairy Engineering but to leave a job after five months doesn’t look promising to her future employer.

This jeopardizes the trust that his subordinates have for him.

The result is that there is significant role conflict for...
