Inglourious Basterds
Inglourious Basterds is a fictional movie that takes place in Germany during World War II. The movie is a tale of revenge in the fullest sense of the word. It not only follows the story of a young Jewish girl whose family is killed right in front of her. The movie also follows the exploits of a group of Jewish- American soldiers known only as “The Basterds”. The have a particularly violent approach to what they do, for example the commanding officer orders each of his troops to scalp 100 Nazi soldiers. Even though there are non-fictional people and places in the movie, it ends in a completely fictional manner.

One of the main characters name was Lt. Aldo Raine, played by Brad Pitt. Lt. Aldo Raine was the leader of “The Basterds”, he was also known to Germans as Aldo the Apache, due to his scalping methods. He would also carvea a Swastika in to the German peoples forehead’s that he let live, unlike their uniform the remaining scar could not be removed. I thought Brad Pitt played the role of the leader very well. According to Rebecca Murray “ Pitt is just extraordinary as the leader of “The Basterds”. (Murray) The one thing that I thought was horrible about Brad Pitt’s acting was his accent. Brian C. Gibson stated “Pitt’s accent is too thick and even annoying”. (Gibson)

The other main character is Shosanna Dreyfus, played by Melanie Laurent. Shosanna was a young French-Jewish girl who watched her family get shot and die right in front of her. She is the owner of an old cinema where she later gets her revenge on Hitler and other Germans. Melanie Laurent gave an excellent performance in her role as Shosanna Dreyfus. Miranda Wilding wrote “Melanie Laurent gives the best performance of her life”. (Wilding)

Like some other Tarantino films the movie has a chapter format applied to it. The first chapter is entitled “Once Upon a Time…In Nazi Occupied France” . It shows the gruesome murder of Shosanna Dreyfus’s family executed by Colonel Hans...
