Case based Learning
Case-based learning uses case studies to present learners with a realistic situation and require them to respond as the person who must solve a problem (Smith and Ragan, 1999). In order to solve problems, learners select and manipulate several principles.

Case Study
Documented study of a specific real-life situation or imagined scenario, used as a training tool in business schools and firms. Students or trainees are required to analyze the prescribed cases and present their interpretations or solutions, supported by the line of reasoning employed and assumptions made.

Case Studies provide the following opportunities:

Develop a variety of ideas to avoid tunnel vision

Develop skills in analyzing factors, appraising alternatives, reaching sensible decisions and planning the implementation of the decision

Enhance verbal and written communication skills

Develop team skills that reduce judgmental behaviours

Apply theory to real life situations

Be responsible for one’s own learning

Approaching Case studies

3. Identify the goals and objectives of decision makers
4. Identify key problems, opportunities, risk or decision making information 5. Prioritizes problems
6. Determine alternative and solutions for solving problems
7. Evaluate alternatives and suggestions for desired outcome 8. Develop strategies for convincing others of the importance in the decisions taken 9. Enjoy the discussion

He has asked you to review the current amenities listing and come up with three to five suggestions on how the hotel could change its amenities to attract more international guests and make them feel more welcome. The list of current amenities follows: Free continental breakfast
