Course Description
This course provides the students with an understanding of the major contemporary global issues. It mainly focuses on the political, economic, managerial, cultural, and social perspectives. Also, this course provides students with a good basis for real life case studies.

Course Objectives
Knowledge and understanding:
By the end of the course students should be able to:


Identify major topics such as: Globalization, Ethics and Social Responsibility, Distinguish the consequences of Poverty, Overpopulation and Urbanization Define what is Modernization and how it contributes to Global Social changes Identify the meaning of Human rights and recognize the principles of world politics

Recognize the basis of the Nile basin water problem
Illustrate with control the main features of major important global issues such as: Global warming, Gender issues and women empowerment, Corruption issues and economics inequalities and the European Union current issues.

General skills: the student should be able to:
- Defend his/her ideas confidently
- Work coherently as a team member
- Study and find information independently
- Present papers and discuss results

Attendance and participation


Mid-term exam (30%):
Mid-term exam will include all the materials and classes up to the exam date. Final exam (40%):
Final exam will include only the materials provided after the mid-term. Take-home exam (5%):
Take home exam will be distributed in class and the student will have 1 week to answer the exam. Each student has to hand in his answers to the professor during the next class time. The time of exam is to be determined.

Case Analysis (team work) (10 %)
Case analysis is mainly brainstorming activities. The class will be divided into equal groups in alphabetical order and each group has to write 1 to 2 papers of analysis after the professor's presentation of a scientific film during the class time. The professor will provide the students with the guidelines necessary to study each case. No excuses will be tolerated for delayed papers.

Research paper (group work) (10%)
The class will be divided into equal groups in alphabetical order and each group will be invited to scan information resources on the Internet and visit the library to prepare a country analysis guided by the main topics related to the course

objectives. The research should include an analysis for any country according to the student preference. In their study students has to present a critical analysis for real problems facing the country they have chosen. Each group has to send me by e-mail his research paper (10 pages: 8 pts) & his PowerPoint presentation (10 to 15 minutes of presentation in class: 2 pts) 1 day before the class. No excuses will be tolerated for delayed papers.
